REIMBURSEMENT ALERT
NCCI edit for Cervical Arthroplasty will be deleted!
Medtronic has received notification from CMS that there will be a positive change in a recent billing regulation. Effective October 1, 2007, the National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edit regarding CPT code 63075 (Cervical Discectomy) and 0090T (Cervical Arthroplasty) will be deleted. This deletion will appear in version 13.3 of the NCCI manual.
This edit, effective April 1, 2007, claimed that the Cervical Discectomy (63075) and Cervical Arthroplasty (0090T) procedures are "mutually exclusive," meaning that they could not reasonably be performed together at the same session by the same provider on the same beneficiary based on the code definitions or anatomic considerations. The impact is a loss of reimbursement for the arthroplasty procedure to the physician.
We initiated a formal request to the NCCI for the edit to be deleted along with supporting information. The confirmation letter indicates that we were successful! It states that the edit will be deleted effective October 1, 2007 and is retroactive to its implementation date of April 1, 2007. Claims that have been denied based on this edit may be resubmitted to your local carrier for processing and payment after October 1, 2007.
